A long time ago, I did this design for hot pink and zebra stripes, but my previous camera on my phone wasn’t so great, and honestly, I wasn’t very good at taking pictures.
To get this design, you need:
- Super Star by Pure Ice, or a white nail polish
- Black Onyx by O.P.I. Nail Lacquer, or a black nail polish
- Strawberry Margarita by O.P.I. Nail Lacquer
- French tip curves nail art guide sticker/ tape
- Fine nail art brush or tool to paint
- Clear top coat is optional
- scrap paper or small plastic dish for the nail polish
After my usual clear base coat, I painted 2 coats of the pink (Strawberry Margarita) nail polish. I let that dry completely, and then placed the nail art guide sticker (or tape- however you like to call it), about 1/3 from the top of the nail. Some people have shorter nails, so their “tip” is going to be shorter. Mine just happens to be 1/3 of the nail’s size. Make sure it is about where the top of your nail bed ends. If your nails are much shorter, this style will be hard to pull off, so you may have to move it a little lower. Remember, you’re adding stripes.
Once you’ve placed the sticker guide where you want it to go, use the white nail polish, and carefully paint above the guide. Some people get lax and accidentally go over the other side of the sticker guide, so it’s important to be careful. I like to barely get enough nail polish onto the sticker guide so I don’t run into overrunning the guide.
Wait about 5 minutes for the single coat of white nail polish to dry, and then carefully pull the nail sticker tape off. You must pull it directly across, not up or down, or do any twisting. The paint will not be completely dry, but that’s okay. You want it to dry without the sticker guide there. If any of the white nail polish comes up while peeling off the nail art tape, then very carefully pat it back down.
Let that coat dry, and then, one it’s dry, take your black nail polish, and pour a little bit of nail polish on a piece of scrap paper, or a small plastic plate or bowl. If you know how zebra stripes look, make sure to vary them a little, but also keep them somewhat the same pattern for each nail. If you aren’t completely sure what zebra stripes look like, you can Google images of zebras and get an idea of what you want to paint. When you do have an idea, you can paint it. I’m still learned to be more steady, so my stripes don’t look at sleek, but I’m sure with time and practice, I’ll get better.
